We are very fortunate to have dedicated, passionate instructors here at Bikram Yoga Burnaby. Each of our instructors have completed the Bikram Yoga Teacher Training program and immersed themselves in an in-depth study of Bikram Yoga with Yoga Masters Bikram and Rajashree Choudhury and their staff of senior teachers.
My Bikram Yoga journey started when I discovered not only that I had scoliosis, but that it was advancing more quickly than I was comfortable with. What I found along the way was that Bikram Yoga was my answer to dealing with stress and surviving university!
In 2006, I took my first Bikram yoga class with my friend out of curiosity when I was studying at UBC. I have always been an active person, always have an open mind and heart to try out different things in life. I love exercising and playing a variety of sports in my free time. However, I have never been able to practice a sport so consistently and with such dedication until I have discovered Bikram's yoga.
I took my first Bikram Yoga class in 2008 and knew instantly I had found something special. I had worked out in gyms, taken group fitness classes, tried other yogas and even run a couple of half marathons but had never found anything that intrigued and challenged me like this class.
I love practicing this yoga. I believe in this yoga - and I love teaching this yoga! My love affair with Bikram Yoga started in 2005 and eventually led me down the path to complete Teacher Training in Fall of 2006.
After knee surgery, and one year of diligent physiotherapy, I could not sit cross-legged comfortably and my mobility was compromised. My physiotherapist said I was just going to have to get used to it! A dear friend suggested I try Bikram yoga. I remember my first class vividly! After about 30 minutes, I just happened to look in the direction of the door and the teacher exclaimed "don't even think about leaving the room!" There were many students in the room, how did she KNOW? So I stayed in the room. Several weeks later, I noticed I could sit cross-legged comfortably! Over time other improvements were noted too: improved posture, better sleep, less stress. I soon realized this Bikram yoga was a REALLY good thing!
I spent most of my career in the corporate environment in various cities in the US. I worked and lived on Wall Street in New York until 9/11. After moving back to Vancouver I continued working in the Corporate Financial world by telecommuting but began a search to provide life with new meaning and purpose.
I was first introduced to yoga in the autumn of 2001 while I was involved in the fitness industry as a personal trainer and group exercise instructor. I attended my first Bikram yoga class in my hometown of Vancouver, Canada shortly after, and knew from the beginning that I wanted to become a Bikram yoga teacher.

Sunshine took her Bikram Yoga class in 2004 while studying at college. At first, Bikram Yoga helped to relieve her stress from school.
In 2001, I was a fit martial artist practicing Tae Kwon Do. I loved the sport but chronic pain, severe headaches, and numbness and tingling in my hands and arms forced me to stop training. After CT scans and an MRI scan, I was diagnosed with severe herniated discs in my spine and was forced to leave my sport for good.
